Our Faith

Our Faith

Pärnu St Elizabeth’s Parish, like every Christian congregation, confesses faith in the Triune God, who in his Son Jesus Christ has redeemed us from sin, death and the power of the devil.

We believe …

… in one God in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, the Most Holy Trinity, who is our Creator, Redeemer and Sanctifier.

… that God the Father is the Creator and Sustainer of all that exists. From him everything receives its being and life and all that is needed for life.

… that Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, is our Saviour and Lord. Through his birth of the Virgin Mary, his holy and sinless life and his atoning death on the cross, he has redeemed us: offering himself for us, he has freed and cleansed us from sin, rescued us from eternal condemnation and given us new, perfect and everlasting life.

… that through the Holy Spirit God calls us to repentance, faith and obedience, reveals his will and works to us, and sanctifies us for a life of service to him.

… that the Bible is the revealed Word of God, given to us as the unfailing authority and guide in all matters of faith and godly life. We believe that the gospel of Jesus Christ is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.

… everything confessed in the ancient Creeds of Nicaea, the Apostles and Athanasius, together with the living tradition of faith expressed by the councils of the early Church.

… that the whole human race has fallen into sin and is therefore subject to corruption and eternal perdition.

… that Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation to God and eternal life.

… that in Baptism the saving power of Christ’s death and resurrection is given to us, original sin and all personal sins are washed away, and we are born anew as children of God and members of his family, the Church.

… that through repentance and confession, God forgives the sins we truly repent of and sincerely confess through the confessor’s word of absolution.

… that in Holy Communion Jesus Christ gives us his true Body and Blood under the forms of bread and wine, nourishing and strengthening us with his real presence on our journey to eternal life.

… that Jesus Christ will come again at the end of time for the final judgement, raising the righteous to eternal life and the unrighteous to eternal condemnation.

… that death, the last enemy, will be destroyed, and in the end God will be all in all.
