How to become a Christian

Baptism

To join the Church and become a member of the parish, a person must be baptised.

Baptism is a sacrament: a sacred rite through which a person becomes a Christian, is born anew spiritually and is received by God into His family as one of His children.

For a child to be baptised, at least one parent or guardian must be a communicant member of the parish, that is, baptised and confirmed. The same applies to godparents, whose presence at a child’s baptism is strongly encouraged.

Adult baptism is preceded by a period of instruction. Its length may vary, and during it the candidate learns the essentials of the Christian faith and how to live according to that faith.

Adult baptism is accompanied by confirmation. After confirmation, a person may marry in church, have their children baptised and serve as a godparent.

Taking part in worship

The first step towards becoming a parish member is to come to church and take part in the parish’s worship services. Please also tell the parish office that you wish to join and arrange an initial conversation with a pastor.

Pärnu St Elizabeth’s Parish warmly welcomes everyone who wishes to join us.
