Twenty-second Sunday after Pentecost: The Struggle of Faith

The official said to Jesus, “Sir, come down before my little boy dies.” Jesus said to him, “Go; your son will live.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and started on his way. (John 4:49–50)

The Twenty-second Sunday after Pentecost is dedicated in the Church year to the struggle of faith.

To believe in God means to trust him, his guidance and his promises in matters great and small. It means ceasing to demand that God constantly prove himself to you by fulfilling one new wish after another. Like the official from Capernaum, it means praying and acting in trust even when the eye has not yet seen the miracle. It means striving more and more to love and obey God, not for self-interest, but because of who God is. Such is love—God’s love, and true Christian love. Such is Life with a capital L. May the Holy Spirit enable us to understand this and teach us to believe and live in this way.

Welcome to church! At today’s service beginning at 10:00, the Revd Toomas Nigola will preach. Also serving are the Revd Joel Pulk, the Revd Emeritus Tõnu Taremaa, Deacon Hanno Saks, theology student Andres Riivits, Osvald Nigola and theology student Märtin Muhu. Aaro Tetsmann, Marie Nigola and Teele Nigola will serve with music. Coffee will follow.
