On Good Friday, together with Christians from several congregations in Pärnu, we walked the Lord’s Way of the Cross (Latin: Via Crucis), meditating on the Passion of Jesus Christ from his condemnation to his crucifixion and burial.
In Estonia and throughout the world, this devotion holds a particularly important place during Lent and on Good Friday. Although it is a deeply solemn and penitential prayer, in the Christian tradition it does not end in despair: even after the Lord is laid in the tomb, the hope of the resurrection remains.
As we walked on our pilgrimage, we sang thematic passages from Villem Grünthal-Ridala’s alliterative verse poem The Holy Cross.
At 3 pm, the Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion followed in the church.
