Fifth Sunday of Easter (Cantate)

O sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvellous things. (Psalm 98:1)

“Sing to the Lord a new song!”—this is the call of today, the Fifth Sunday of Easter, inviting us to join in the joy of the Resurrection.

Cantate Sunday reminds us that Christian life is more than the grey routine of everyday existence. It is a journey in the footsteps of the Victor, a movement towards true and lasting joy.

Today’s biblical readings affirm that the Holy Spirit has not been given to us only for a moment—he dwells in us and gives us life (Romans 8:9–11). This means that even now, in this world, we may live as citizens of the kingdom of heaven: in reconciliation, love and the peace of God that “surpasses all understanding”.

Jesus prays for us (John 17:6–10)—we are never alone. Isaiah’s vision (32:15–20) promises a fruitful and peaceful life wherever the Spirit of God reigns. This is not a distant future; it begins today, in our hearts and in our parish. 🕊️🎶

Let us pray: Almighty God, from you come all good gifts. Guide us by your Holy Spirit to think on those things that are right and important, and help us to do your will. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever.

See you at church, where the Revd Joel Pulk and our guest, the Revd Mart Salumäe, pastor of Haapsalu Parish, will serve at the Mass beginning at 10:00. The Revd Salumäe will also preach. Andres Riivits and Osvald Nigola will assist with the ministry of the word, and Aaro Tetsmann, Marie Nigola and Teele Nigola with the music.
