Third Sunday after Epiphany

“We have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is truly the Saviour of the world.” (John 4:42)

In today’s Gospel story (John 4:39–42), we see how faith in Christ united people who, in worldly terms, were otherwise very different: men and women, Jews and Samaritans, citizens of bad reputation and of good standing.

Throughout the ages, the Church has likewise been a place where people meet and find one another. It does not matter whether someone is rich or poor, beautiful or plain, educated or unable to read: if they desire to become a disciple of Jesus Christ and a child of the heavenly Father, they are welcome and equal in dignity to everyone else. Their dignity does not depend on their own merits, but on the God to whom they belong. And the great God is mighty to accomplish beautiful things even through ordinary people!
