At the evening Mass on Sunday, 22 June, Bishop Anti Toplaan of the EELC Diocese of Saare-Lääne installed the Revd Joel Pulk as assistant pastor of Pärnu St Elizabeth’s Parish. The Revd Pulk had been ordained at Tallinn Cathedral on Ascension Day.
The bishop was assisted by Archbishop Emeritus Andres Põder, a former pastor of St Elizabeth’s Parish, and the current pastor, Toomas Nigola. Also serving were Dean Emeritus Tõnu Taremaa, the Revd Aili Ilves, the Revd Meelis Malk, and altar servers Andres Riivits and Osvald Nigola. Aaro Tetsmann played the organ and Marie Nigola the violin.
Reflecting in his sermon on the parable of the rich man and poor Lazarus, the Revd Pulk said: “I desire to go everywhere as a servant of the Word of God. Then I need not say that I am poor, for serving the almighty Triune God is a mighty and noble office that I wish to bear with joy. Jesus says that his yoke is easy, and this means accepting his teaching (Matthew 11:29–30). I desire to bear this faith and teaching among you all and embody it in my life.”
