From 17 to 20 August 2026, everyone interested is invited to take part in the next stage of developing the Holy Cross pilgrimage walking route. This time the journey will lead from the Holy Cross Chapel at Vanamõisa to the ruins of Rõngu vassal castle.
The purpose of developing the Holy Cross pilgrimage route is to mark out a walking trail from Pärnu to Vastseliina, connecting places and memories associated with the veneration of the Holy Cross. The route is also linked with the heritage of the Black Cross of Pärnu and the White Cross of Vastseliina, and helps to introduce medieval Christian spirituality and the story of the sacred sites of this region.
In 2025, the first section was marked from St Elizabeth’s Church in Pärnu to the Holy Cross Chapel at Vanamõisa. In August 2026 the work will continue along the next section, from Vanamõisa to Rõngu. The organisers welcome people who would like to help walk, document and make practical preparations for the route.
More detailed practical information will be published in due course. The initial announcement and updates are available on the website of the Roman Catholic parish in Pärnu: Invitation to help develop the Holy Cross pilgrimage route, 17–20 August 2026.
The Holy Cross pilgrimage is an ecumenical undertaking in which Pärnu St Elizabeth’s Parish has been an active organiser and participant from the beginning.
