Second Sunday in Lent (Reminiscere)

Jesus said, “All things can be done for the one who believes.” (Mark 9:23)

The Second Sunday in Lent reminds us that every Christian has a responsibility consciously to direct their mind towards what is better—to become a better person, however clichéd the phrase may sound. “Be good” need not be an empty slogan unless we ourselves treat it as one. Indeed, we have been commanded to be perfect. God has done everything necessary to make it possible for us to become new and good.

Like the father in today’s Gospel story (Mark 9:17–29), we may bring ourselves and everyone else who needs Christ’s help to Jesus in prayer. And when we feel that we do not know how to pray or that our faith is weak, we may entrust even that feeling to Jesus, saying: help my unbelief. He is glad to help!

See you at church at 10:00! Mass will be followed by coffee, Sunday school and confirmation class.
