Jesus came forward and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, “Young man, I say to you, rise!” The dead man sat up and began to speak. (Luke 7:14–15)
In today’s Gospel, Jesus, the Son of the Virgin, meets a widow’s son in the town of Nain. Jesus, who is the Resurrection and the Life, meets the dead man, and the tears of his widowed mother move Jesus to help her.
In the same way, the Church, our mother, now prays for us in our troubles. As members of Christ’s holy Church, we too should offer prayers and supplications for all who are in distress, and especially for those around us who are spiritually dead, that they may find Life in Christ. God answers our prayers through his Holy Spirit, his Word and the sacraments. God is good!
