In the Church calendar, the Seventh Sunday after Pentecost bears the title “The Commandment of Love”.
Christ came to fulfil God’s will and commandments, not to abolish them. Likewise, his disciples—Christians—must follow the commandment of love sincerely and wholeheartedly. In seeking to embody divine love, a Christian is prepared even to surrender their own rights for the good of their neighbour and to show love towards their enemies, just as Christ Jesus has done for us.
